About Kona Limu Co.

For centuries, limu (edible seaweeds) have been treasured and enjoyed by peoples across the Pacific, especially here in Hawai’i.

Dozens of limu varieties have been used as medicine, cultural materials, and as delicious and nutritious foods. Sadly, reef degradation and overharvesting have impacted wild limu populations throughout the Pacific.

Our mission at Kona Limu Company is to responsibly farm these species, to perpetuate and expand their value to the people of Hawai’i, and to share their culinary and nutritional benefits with the wider world.

Our shoreline farm site at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii in Kailua-Kona gives us abundant access to the bright sun and clear seawater our limu need to thrive, and allows us to produce seaweed of the highest quality. Doing this is our passion, and our privilege.

We’re ocean people at heart. If we’re not on the farm or in the lab, we’re probably out for a surf or a dive. Drop us a line, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we’re out of the water.
